The Boys Season 4 Set Photo Teases Dead Character’s Return

Despite his seeming death in season 3, a new The Boys season 4 set photo teases Black Noir’s return to the Prime Video show. Based on Garth Ennis and Darrick Robertson’s graphic novels of the same name, the series is set in a world in which superheroes exist and are corrupt beings, using their powers for lives of comfort and excess while funded by the conglomerate, Vought International. The Boys revolves around the titular vigilante group, led by Karl Urban’s Billy Butcher, as they seek to expose the Supes, namely Vought’s premier team The Seven, and bring a better balance back to the world.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

The Boys season 3 saw the internal conflict between members of The Seven continue to grow with intensity as Homelander’s mental state continues to deteriorate, and he grapples with Vought restricting his creative freedoms. One of the more unique internal conflicts came between Homelander and Black Noir, one of his closest allies in the prior two seasons of the show, only for them to grow apart as the latter’s dark past with Soldier Boy came to light, including his setting up the ambush that led to the Russians capturing Jensen Ackles’ original Supe. The Boys season 3 finale saw Homelander seemingly kill Black Noir upon learning he didn’t tell The Seven leader that Soldier Boy was his father, but it appears that’s not the end for the character.

Twitter user Comicodigy recently shared a set of new photos from the filming of The Boys season 4. The images show a group of Supes hanging out together in an indeterminate location, including none other than Black Noir, teasing the dead character’s return for the next chapter of the show. Check out the set photos above:

How Black Noir Is Back For The Boys Season 4

Given Black Noir’s seeming invincibility throughout all three seasons of The Boys, it’s understandable some took to thinking the character would return for season 4, somehow surviving his wounds from Homelander in the season 3 finale. However, Eric Kripke would later confirm that Nathan Mitchell, the actor behind Black Noir, was still set to come back for The Boys season 4, though he would be playing a new character taking on the moniker following the original’s death. Given the show often takes to exploring its story in flashbacks, it does seem possible that Earving, the original Black Noir, could still make his way back to the fold.

Given Jessie T. Usher’s A-Train can be seen donning his old suit in The Boys season 4 set photos, one could speculate Black Noir’s appearance to be in a set photo, or in the shooting of a new in-universe Seven movie to help explain the character’s death to the public, much in the same way of season 3’s Charlize Theron cameo as Stormfront. However, with the above set photos also revealing. Ryan, Homelander’s son, to be present with the group of Supes, it seems more likely this is the first glimpse at the next Black Noir in action. While audiences await further details on season 4, they can revisit the first three seasons of The Boys streaming on Prime Video now.
