Dancing With The Stars season 31 contestant Selma Blair exited the competition unexpectedly due to health concerns related to multiple sclerosis, and she now shares a message of gratitude and hope as she looks toward the future. After her announcement that her MRI results revealed that she could not continue to compete, Selma and her professional dance partner, Sasha Farber, danced their waltz to Andra Day’s cover of “What The World Needs Now Is Love.” The dance represented the year 2018, when Selma was diagnosed with MS. She received a standing ovation and was honored with four 10’s by judges Derek Hough, Carrie Ann Inaba, Len Goodman, and Bruno Tonioli. The audience was moved to tears as Selma, joined on stage by her 11-year-old son Arthur, took her final bow, in a triumphant moment that was the perfect ending to her inspiring journey.

In an Instagram post, Selma reflected on her time with Dancing With The Stars with a poetic message that reflected the love and light that she experienced in the ballroom. She began by thanking DWTS and Sasha for the gifts she received from them. She wrote, “What this show has given me is beyond measure in spirit life. What my partner @sashafarber1 has gifted me, a sense of self in my body, will be forever felt.” Selma continued by addressing everyone who supported her in DWTS season 31, saying, “What you all have shown me is love. Precious love…Each celebrity and pro has embraced me with the love of family. I am so honored. So truly honored. I weep with genuine appreciation. And gratitude. What an evening to remember.”

Selma Blair Wants To Dance Her DWTS Waltz Again

Selma concluded her post with a promise to dance again when she heals. She said, “I will perfect this waltz Sasha so thoughtfully gave me. And I will dance it with wisdom and ease and great serenity. When my knee and hip heal. And I will remember these steps under a full moon of memory. With love.” Although she said that she had intensive bone trauma and inflammation, as well as rips and tears that could have led to extensive long-term damage to her body if she did not leave, she expressed that she will be okay. There was not a dry eye in the house as Sasha, Emma Slater, Brandon Armstrong, and Selma’s son lifted her in the air.

If Selma’s body recovers in time for the DWTS finale, she and Sasha should be invited to dance again. Her time was cut way too short on DWTS, and she deserves another chance to shine in the spotlight. Her dances were beautiful and entertaining. Sasha created choreography for her with a gentle touch, helping her reach her full potential. He was the ideal partner for her, and his efforts as her teacher should be recognized. What Selma and Sasha achieved in DWTS season 31 was about more than dancing. As Selma said on DWTS, Sasha helped her to show the world that there are partners in life who can help people if they let them know that they need a hand to hold.

Selma has always been so gracious during DWTS season 31, thanking everyone for the experience. However, she gave so much to everyone, inspiring people with her determination and drive. She showed the world that people can live and thrive with chronic illnesses. Selma’s groundbreaking journey transcended DWTS and will be remembered forever.
