The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power finally revealed who Sauron is, and fans have united in thirst for the handsome dark lord. The series, which premiered on Prime Video this September, is a prequel to the Lord of the Rings trilogy, following the major historical events of Middle-earth’s Second Age. This includes the lead-up to the War of the Last Alliance, where Elves and Men teamed up to remove the One Ring from the dark Sauron’s grasp, rendering him as the incorporeal flaming eye that is depicted in Lord of the Rings. Throughout season 1, many have suspected that one of the characters in the series will be revealed to be Sauron, generally thinking that he was going to turn out to be The Stranger (Daniel Weyman), who arrived in episode 1 in a great ball of flame.
Today, the Rings of Power season 1 finale aired, giving audiences the answers to their burning questions about Sauron’s identity. While it briefly seemed as though they would be revealing that The Stranger was indeed Sauron, in a shocking twist, Galadriel’s (Morfydd Clark) human ally and potential love interest Halbrand (Charlie Vickers), revealed that he is actually the dark lord in disguise. This means that the Elf warrior has inadvertently helped the man who killed her brother rise to power once again, which will likely lead to huge conflict in the upcoming Rings of Power season 2.
While The Rings of Power fans were shocked by the reveal, some were shocked for a different reason. The fact that many of them find Vickers to be very attractive has led to some folks singing a different tune about the notorious villain. In addition to wanting Galadriel’s attraction to the character to continue unabated now that their romance is forbidden and thus far more intriguing, others merely expressed their support for the villain being such a babe. Why LOTR: Rings Of Power Making Sauron Hot Was The Right Move
Although many of these fans are kidding around, to a certain extent, it does add a new dimension to The Rings of Power that Sauron has a corporeal form that is alluring to people. Part of the way that the Lord of the Rings stories indicates the fact that he’s pure evil is by showing his essence as a being of flame and pure power, divorced from a true form of any kind. However, now that he has a form that some people both within and outside the show find pleasing, it will underscore the wicked way he is able to subtly ensnare his followers, positioning him as something more like a Charles Manson-esque cult leader.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power fans are also clearly eager for the romantic tension between Galadriel and Sauron to continue. This kind of tension can add a lot of texture to the fight between a hero and villain, as fans of the Dumbledore-Grindelwald romance in the Harry Potter universe know well. Even if their romance turns out to no longer be a part of the show moving forward, this will at least always be the reveal that launched a thousand fanfiction stories.
