After just six episodes, Rick and Morty season 6 is going on a hiatus for several weeks, leaving many viewers wondering when the release date for season 6, episode 7 is. After the release of Rick and Morty season 6, episode 6, “Jurassic Mort,” Adult Swim took to Twitter to announce that the series would be going on a mid-season break but that it would be coming back soon. Although it is hard going weeks without the show, its return isn’t too far off, so here is everything you need to know about Rick and Morty season 6’s brief hiatus, including why it’s taking a break, when it will return, and what the rest of the season will entail.
Rick and Morty season 6, episode 7, will release on Sunday, November 20th, 2022, with the rest of the season airing over the subsequent weeks. Season 6 originally started on September 9th, with the most recent episode airing on October 9th, meaning that the mid-season break is just under a month and a half. So, while it is known when the show will come back, there is still a lot more to unpack regarding Rick and Morty season 6’s hiatus.
Why Is Rick & Morty Season 6 On Hiatus?
Adult Swim hasn’t announced an official reason why Rick and Morty season 6 is going on hiatus, except for the humorous post (via Twitter), which explained that it was to give viewers time “to expand [their] mind[s] in preparation for the rest of the season.” However, this pattern follows that of previous seasons, as almost every other season of Rick and Morty has had a break for some period of time. Rick and Morty season 5 took a month-long break after episode 8, with episodes 9 and 10 airing a few weeks later. Almost every other season has had at least a week-long break between some episodes, meaning that a mid-season break like this is not out of the ordinary. After all, the wait could be worse – Rick and Morty season 4 was on hiatus from December 15th, 2019, to May 3rd, 2020.
How Many Episodes Rick & Morty Season 6 Has Left
Like previous seasons, Rick and Morty season 6 will consist of a total of 10 episodes. With six episodes having already been released, this means that the show will air its final four episodes when it returns. Presumably, they will air back-to-back weeks, although it isn’t confirmed, and another break isn’t unprecedented.
What To Expect From Rick & Morty Season 6, Part 2
The rest of Rick and Morty season 6 will have plenty of story to tell, as the Evil Morty and Rick Prime stories haven’t been touched since they were set up in season 6, episode 1. However, “Jurassic Mort” also wrapped up many storylines, with the dinosaurs closing the space rift and encouraging Rick to fix his portal gun. With the jokes about canon in that episode, it could be that Rick and Morty completely ignores these stories until the season 6 finale, meaning that these final four episodes could contain a mix of fun one-off adventures and continuity-based storytelling. While there is still a bit of a wait, there is much more fun to be had when Rick and Morty season 6 returns to Adult Swim on November 20th.
