Disney+’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians finds its Ares, Medusa, and Echidna, casting Adam Copeland, Jessica Parker Kennedy, and Suzanne Cryer as the legendary Greek figures in the upcoming series. The adaptation of Rick Riordan’s young adult novel series sees Walker Scobell take on the role of the titular modern-day demigod. Percy Jackson and the Olympians is expected to release in 2024.
Taking place in modern-day America, Percy Jackson and the Olympians follows Scobell’s young Percy Jackson as he learns he is the demigod son of the Greek god Poseidon. After discovering his legendary heritage, Jackson settles into Camp Half-Blood, a secluded location where the children of the Greek pantheon can hone their abilities safely. But when Zeus’ Master Lightning Bolt is stolen, Percy must embark on a quest to reclaim the powerful artifact before a devastating conflict between the gods can erupt, leading to his traveling across North America to find the Bolt. While filming is still underway, Riordan has offered regular updates on the production’s progress, and after revealing how much Percy Jackson‘s filming had adapted of the first novel, The Lightning Thief, so far, three new faces have joined the cast, taking on the role of some of the hero’s ancient foes.

Copeland, who is well-known for his WWE wrestling career under the ring name Edge, will portray the Greek God of War Ares, who has a large role in the first novel. Alongside Copeland, it was revealed that Black Sails and The Flash star Kennedy will portray the Gorgon Medusa, while Silicon Valley star Cryer will portray Mother of Monsters Echidna.

The Percy Jackson Show Cast Is Coming Together
Copeland, Kennedy, and Cryer are the latest names to join the cast of the upcoming series and will star alongside Scobell, Aryan Simhadri, and Leah Sava Jeffries, who will portray the first book’s central trio of Percy, Grover Underwood, and Annabeth Chase. Alongside the three recently cast antagonists and the core group of heroes, Percy Jackson and the Olympians has also cast key recurring characters such as Percy’s mother Sally, stepfather Gabe Ugliano, and Camp Half-Blood mentors Chiron and Dionysus, with Virginia Kull, Timm Sharp, Glynn Turman, and Jason Mantzoukas cast as the adults who play a role in Percy’s life. Dior Goodjohn and Charlie Bushnell have also been cast as fellow Camp Half-Blood residents and demigods Clarisse La Rue and Luke Castellan. While Disney+’s adaptation of Percy Jackson has gradually revealed more of its cast, there are still a number of key characters yet to be cast, including Greek Gods Zeus, Poseidon, Hades, and Persephone. The show has also yet to cast Kronos, the King of the Titans who ultimately would serve as the novel series’ overarching villain.
With Scobell previously confirming Percy will fight Ares, Copeland, Kennedy, and Cryer’s casting is sure to leave dedicated Percy Jackson fans highly excited. While Medusa was portrayed by Uma Thurman and had a prominent role in the 2010 film adaptation of The Lightning Thief, Ares and Echidna had their roles in the novel cut from the film, decisions which left both Riordan and audiences familiar with the source material unsatisfied with the film’s story. As such, the latest cast announcements for Percy Jackson and the Olympians are a good sign that viewers can expect a faithful retelling of Riordan’s hit story.
