Gotham Knights will soon add a free new mode, Heroic Assault, which will let four players team up to even the odds against Gotham’s criminals.
In November Gotham Knights will receive a new four-player co-op mode called Heroic Assault. The open-world superhero title will see Robin, Batgirl, Nightwing and Red Hood step up to protect Gotham City following the death of Batman. Gotham Knights open-world gameplay will let two players team up to patrol the city streets, but Heroic Assault will let an even bigger group fight together for the fate of Gotham.
Gotham Knights lets players choose between four distinct superheroes, each with their own unique fighting styles and upgrade trees. Nightwing focuses on fast and acrobatic close-range combat, for example, while Red Hood can engage foes at long range using his dual pistols. Players can choose to control any of the four heroes at any given time, with Gotham Knights changing cutscenes and dialogue to reflect which Bat Family member is present. Co-op lets two players team up for both open-world patrols and story missions, though having two of the same character in Gotham Knights can make gameplay feel a bit awkward.
A Gotham Knights Twitter post has announced that a dedicated multiplayer mode called Heroic Assault will be added to the game on November 29. As a completely separate mode from the main campaign, Heroic Assault will let up to four players come together and complete specific objectives in an arena-like environment. The new Gotham Knights mode will presumably work like a gauntlet, with groups progressing through each of the mode’s 30 floors until they reach the end or every hero is defeated. The Heroic Assault update will be completely free, giving all Gotham Knights players a new way to defend Gotham as a family.
Gotham Knights Will Bring All Four Heroes Together
While the game’s four heroes will fight crime together, cutscenes also hint at some emotional drama like a Batgirl and Nightwing romance in Gotham Knights. The game will see all four of its playable heroes, alongside loyal butler Alfred Pennyworth, struggle to process the sudden death of Batman. Each of the Knights will deal with the loss in their own way, and the game’s story will also see them clash and grow closer in the wake of such tremendous loss. In this way, Gotham Knights will use its large cast to forge both fun multiplayer gameplay and somber narrative moments.
Given the strong focus on its four playable heroes, it seemed strange for Gotham Knights to limit co-op play to only two players. The upcoming Heroic Assault mode will rectify this issue by letting four players team up to take down criminals and complete objectives in a specially-built environment. The free Gotham Knights update will arrive on November 29, giving the Bat Family even more opportunities to build their legacy.
