October 2022 is a momentous month for Swifties all-around the world. On October 21st, pop icon Taylor Swift will release her tenth album titled Midnights. But for those who can’t wait for more Taylor, they will be treated to Swift’s return to the big screen in David O. Russell’s ensemble capper Amsterdam.
Amidst chart-topping singles, record-breaking albums, and accolades galore, Swift has found the time to pop up in the occasional feature film. Amsterdam is only the latest in her varied filmography.
8/8 Valentine’s Day – 18%
In his 2010 ensemble romantic comedy Valentine’s Day, director Garry Marshall calls upon a star-studded cast to tell tales of various couples dealing with relationship woes during the romantic holiday. Swift plays a small role as the female half of a high school couple still deep in puppy love.
Memorably, Swift’s other half in the film was played by her then-boyfriend, Twilight star Taylor Lautner. And long before its addition to Fearless (Taylor’s Version), Swift debuted her song “Today Was a Fairy Tale” on the film’s soundtrack. “Fairy Tale” would go on to hit number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 (viaBillboard).

Academy Award winner Tom Hooper’s Cats infamously collected some of the most talented people in the world and produced a catastrophic flop and one of the worst fantasy movies of the 2010s. Swift pops us in the end to sing the song “Macavity”.
In addition to her featured role, Swift collaborated with the legendary Andrew Lloyd Webber to write an original song for the film. “Beautiful Ghosts” would go on to receive nominations from the Golden Globes and the Grammy Awards. Although Francesca Hayward sings the song in the film, Swift takes over and sings the official single version over the end credits.
6/8 Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience – 23%
Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience was Disney’s follow-up to the wildly successful Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert. This time, the documentary subject is the Jonas Brothers on their Burnin’ Up Tour.
Along with Demi Lovato, Swift is one of two guest artists invited on stage to join throughout the concert. She appears in the back half of the film, joining the brothers in a performance of the song “Should’ve Said No” from her self-titled debut album. The film is a treat for Swities who get to see Swift perform with her boyfriend-at-the-time, Joe Jonas.
5/8 The Giver – 35%
The Giver is an adaptation of Lois Lowry’s popular YA dystopian novel exploring a society devoid of pain and emotion that relies on a single figure, the Receiver of Memory, to hold all the memories of the before time. The film’s allstar cast includes Jeff Bridges, Meryl Streep, Alexander Skarsgård, and Katie Holmes.
This film is notable for being the first to really test Swift’s acting chops. Unlike most films that only rely on her charm and singing abilities, The Giver provides Swift a chance to act out full scenes opposite one of the greats, Academy Award winner Jeff Bridges.
4/8 Hannah Montana: The Movie – 43%
In Hannah Montana: The Movie, the feature-length adaptation of one of the best Disney Channel Original Series, Swift is one of the many real-life figures who make a cameo within Miley Stewart’s misadventures. She makes a brief appearance with her trusty guitar during the film’s barn party.
For the film, Swift contributed two songs to the soundtrack. As part of her cameo, she is seen singing the song “Crazier” intercut between intimate moments from the film’s two love stories. Additionally, she co-wrote the film’s closing number, “You’ll Always Find Your Way Back Home” with Boys Like Girls frontman Martin Johnson.
3/8 Dr. Seuss’ the Lorax – 54%
From the team that created Despicable Me and Minions, Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax adapts the famed children’s book author’s environmental fable into a feature film. In the film, Swift portrays Audrey, a teenage girl who wishes to finally see a real tree.
The Lorax holds many distinctions within the Taylor Swift legacy. It is the first, and currently only, time that she has lent her voice to an animated character. Additionally, this is one of the few projects where Swift’s musical talents aren’t used. Instead, her bright, bubbly spirit imbues Audrey with the zaniness to match Dr. Seuss’s kaleidoscopic world.
2/8 Taylor Swift: Miss Americana – 92%
In Miss Americana, Swift’s entry into the behind-the-scenes musician documentary genre, director Lana Wilson follows Swift’s brief fall from grace post-reputation and her gradual climb back building to the release of Lover. Wilson captures Swift at her most vulnerable as the singer re-examines her responsibilities as one of the most influential voices in pop culture.
Miss Americana was released on Netflix to critical acclaim from fans and critics alike. The film would be cited by the National Board of Review as one of the Top 5 Documentaries of 2020 and the Critics Choice Documentary Awards honored Swift with the award for Most Compelling Living Subject of a Documentary.
1/8 Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions – 100%
Part intimate concert film and part behind-the-scenes featurette, Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions captures Swift with her co-producers Aaron Dessner and Jack Antonoff as they run away to a cabin in the woods and record a stripped-down version of her album folklore.
After making her solo directorial debut with the music video for her song “The Man”, Swift made her feature-length directorial debut with The Long Pond Studio Sessions. Due to the album’s surprise release and lack of a promotional cycle, Studio Sessions provided fans with their first deep dive into the creative process of Swift’s Grammy Award-winning Album of the Year.
