Dungeons & Dragons Video Game In Development On Unreal Engine 5

A new Dungeons & Dragons video game is currently in development, with Unreal Engine 5 helping to bring the beloved fantasy franchise to life.

A brand-new Dungeons & Dragons video game, built on Unreal Engine 5, has been announced by developer Invoke Studios and series publisher Wizards of the Coast. The iconic tabletop fantasy franchise has inspired a number of video games over the years, ranging from epic action games to RPG titles that mirror the traditional tabletop experience. The best DnD video game adaptions manage to capture the heart of the beloved franchise, and now another new game is being built on UE5.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

The latest video game adaption of the Dungeons & Dragons franchise was last year’s Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance. Published by Wizards of the Coast and developed by Tuque Games, the intense action RPG sees players journey to the frozen region of Icewind Gale and battle hordes of vicious monsters. Rather than create their own custom character, the fantasy brawler allows players to choose between four legendary heroes: Drizzt Do’Urden, Catti-brie, Bruenor Battlehammer, and Wulfgar. While the title was praised for its beautiful interpretation of Icewind Gale and its residents, many fans considered DnD: Dark Alliance a bad role-playing game due to its lack of character customization and repetitive gameplay.

As reported by Eurogamer, a brand-new Dungeons & Dragons video game is being built on Unreal Engine 5. The project is being developed by DnD: Dark Alliance developer Tuque Games, which has been officially rebranded as Invoke Studios. Wizards of the Coast announced that the new project will be a big-budget AAA game, and it will be built on the UE5 engine. The new Dungeons & Dragons game is also being helmed by Dominic Guay, an Ubisoft veteran known for producing entries in the Watch Dogs, Far Cry and Splinter Cell franchises.

Dungeons & Dragons Video Games Create Interactive Adventures

Alongside Invoke Studios’ upcoming project, last year it was announced that an open-world Dungeons & Dragons video game is currently in the works too. Developed by Hidden Path Entertainment, this project was apparently still in early development when it was first revealed. Given that Hidden Path’s DnD game will also have a AAA scope, it remains to be seen how Invoke Studios’ upcoming fantasy game will set itself apart. Perhaps the recently-announced UE5 project will aim for a smaller scope and focus on RPG elements, rather than creating an enormous open world.

Dungeons & Dragons has inspired countless fantasy video games, and now the franchise is set to receive another game of its own. Invoke Studios’ project remains mysterious, but the use of Unreal Engine 5 means the game will no doubt feature a gorgeous fantasy world for players to explore. While Dark Alliance was considered a general disappointment, hopefully the team has learned from that experience and is well-equipped for the journey of crafting another Dungeons & Dragons adventure.
