With the release of Andor and other Star Wars series on Disney+ the galaxy far, far away is expanding along with wilder and more intriguing fan theories. Ever since 1977 when George Lucas began his Skywalker saga, fans have been filling in the blanks of his stories, and decades later there’s still so much to explore with new (and legacy) heroes and villains.
Some theories, like the ones that feature Jar Jar Binks as a Sith Lord or two separate Anakin Skywalkers might seem completely bizarre, but given context within Lucas’s vision and the creative minds behind the rest of the Star Wars franchise, they begin to make a lot of sense.
Jar Jar Binks Is A Sith Lord
To some, Jar Jar Binks is one of the most annoying characters in the franchise and completely misplaced in the plot of Lucas’s prequel trilogy. But what if his presence wasn’t random at all, and his usefulness as comic relief belied a more sinister reality; Jar Jar Binks is a Sith Lord.
One fan on Quora thinks it’s not as unlikely as it sounds, and as it turns out, there are a lot of details that back up the Darth Jar Jar theory; his yellow eyes, Jedi Mind trick hand waves on Sebulba, and of course, giving Chancellor Palpatine emergency powers at precisely the crucial moment to allow a fellow Sith to rise to power.
Rey’s Snap Proves Star Wars Is Part Of A Multiverse
During her training with Jedi Master Luke Skywalker on Ahch-To, Rey descends into a cave very similar to the one he encountered during his own training on Dagobah. With a strong connection to the Force established, she sees images of herself reflected back to her in the cave’s mirror-like walls, which could signal that in the search for her origins she only has herself to rely on, or something much more fascinating.
JFiveD proposes Rey’s snap in the cave “shows Rey an infinite number of variants of herself who are all in alignment is actually the force blocking her from seeing her true nature,” and that Luke discovered a multiverse first on Dagobah. This revelation, coupled with the presence of Dark Rey and a more cynical Luke, as well as J.J. Abram’s interest in the paranormal, could explain the inconsistencies in each trilogy of movies.
Always Two (Anakins) There Are
The way Anakin Skywalker behaves in the first two prequel movies is very different from the way he acts in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, and even from his appearance in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. What if this was because there were actually two Anakins running around?
TheChainsawVigilante thinks Darth Sidious created an Anakin clone that he could control with “hypnotic triggers” similar to Order 66, activating him “between the opening act of the last episode of Clone Wars and the opening act of Revenge of the Sith.” This clone then kills “good Anakin” and thanks to Sidious’s influence, believes himself to be the true Chosen One. His conditioned clone could explain how easily Anakin got closer to the dark side, the two portrayals of the exact same character, and the line “Darth Vader betrayed and murdered your father.”
Star Wars And Men In Black Exist In The Same Universe
In Men in Black, when Agents K and J are reviewing the humans on Earth who are secretly aliens, George Lucas is listed as one of them. This inspired a wild theory that not only does Star Wars and Men in Black exist in the same universe, but Lucas had a very particular reason for creating his original trilogy.
Redditor MimeMike asserts that “in this universe, the Star Wars movies, excluding the sequels, are all biopics about whatever galaxy George Lucas is from.” To think, Lucas’s stories are so detailed and feel so lived-in because he knows about that galaxy far, far away from personal experience.
Ewoks Ate Stormtroopers
After defeating the Empire, Ewoks and Rebels celebrated as heroes on Endor with music, dancing, and food. As Ewoks banged on a drum set made of stormtrooper, death star trooper, and scout trooper helmets, fans began theorizing that the adorable teddy bear-like creatures had made meals of their Imperial enemies.
An entire Reddit discussion is devoted to the theory, with Redditors citing the helmets (as well as the Forces of Destiny episode about Ewoks eating people) as proof positive that the little fuzzy warriors are in fact carnivorous in a big way. Considering the size of the trap that caught Chewbacca, as well as their hatred for the Empire, it seems more and more likely.
R2-D2 Is Narrating Star Wars
If there’s one word that perfectly sums up R2-D2, it’s “ubiquitous.” The chirpy little astromech is everywhere in the Skywalker saga, as well as several of the live-action Disney+ series, always in the background observing the dramatic events of the heroes and villains.
This has lead to theories that R2-D2 is actually narrating the Skywalker saga based on casual comments made to The Independent by George Lucas. Why else would he be omnipresent to the most important events in the galaxy, and never have his memory wiped?
Palpatine Is Anakin’s Father
Anakin’s origins have remained shrouded in mystery ever since the prequel trilogy, and even Lucas never gave a definitive explanation for how Shmi Skywalker became pregnant with the Chosen One in the first place. Given Palpatine’s level of interest in Anakin from the very beginning, some fans have believed he had something to do with his mysterious birth.
Redditor 3D1E72 theorizes that “Palpatine manipulated the force to “impregnate” Anakin’s mother,” which could be supported by Palpatine’s own admission that “the dark side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some would consider to be unnatural,” including power over life and death through the manipulation of midichlorians.
Boba Fett Killed Uncle Owen & Aunt Beru
Fans were just as surprised as Luke to find Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru’s charred remains outside the Lars homestead, but somehow Obi-Wan’s explanation that “only Imperial stormtroopers are so precise” didn’t ring true. Another person was known for not just sharpshooter accuracy, but mass casualties; the most fearsome bounty hunter in the galaxy, Boba Fett.
“Boba Fett killed Aunt Beru and his uncle,” says GoBackToTheKitchen9, giving credence to Darth Vader’s admonishment of Fett in The Empire Strikes Back – “no disintegrations.” The Book of Boba Fett not only showed Fett had spent some time on Tatooine, but certain comics place Fett there hunting Luke Skywalker, even going so far as to toss Obi-Wan’s hut looking for clues.
New Jedi Will Be Called Skywalkers
Following Rey’s defeat of Darth Sidious, she returns to Tatooine to bury Luke and Leia’s lightsabers while simultaneously letting the local population know that she goes by “Skywalker” now. This prompted a question after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker – will all subsequent Jedi be going by the famous surname, or just her?
According to IGN, the Skywalker name could redefine the Jedi Order, especially since Timothy Zahn’s novel Thrawn: Alliances introduces the concept that Force-sensitive pilots are “Skywalkers” assisting the navigation of the most dangerous parts of space. Referring to Jedi as “Skywalkers” would not only pay homage to the Skywalker legacy, but separate a Jedi Order with a new perspective.
Jannah Is Lando’s Daughter
After the Resistance defeated the Final Order, celebrations erupted all over the galaxy, and old and new heroes came together to toast the end of the Sith and the Empire. Jannah, an ex-stormtrooper, and Lando Calrissian, smuggler-turned-baron-administrator-turned-Rebel-hero found themselves on the cusp of exploring a connection.
The odd familiarity with which the two speak instantly sparked a theory that Jannah was Lando’s daughter, with actress Naomi Ackie coyly remarking that Lando had probably had fathered a lot of children all across the galaxy. Given how fate and destiny behave in the franchise, it’s not such a wild theory after all, and could be explored in future entries to the canon.
