Could Alien TV Show Feature Prometheus’ Weyland? Guy Pearce Responds


Guy Pearce is discussing the possibility of appearing in the new Alien television series as his Prometheus character, Peter Weyland. The Alien franchise, portraying the deadly encounters between space-faring humans and the threatening extraterrestrial species known as Xenomorphs, began back in 1979 with Ridley Scott’s science-fiction horror classic. In 2020, it was announced that a television project based on the film series was being developed for FX on Hulu, with Noah Hawley serving as showrunner and Scott producing. The show is expected to debut in 2023, and while the plot still remains heavily under wraps, besides that it will take place on Earth, it was recently revealed that Hawley completed all of the scripts for season 1.


Pearce starred as Peter Weyland in 2012’s Prometheus, a prequel that followed archeologists on an expedition to the distant moon, LV-223, and uncovered more about the Engineers. The aging CEO of Weyland-Yutani Corporation, a company at the forefront of technological advancements and space settlements, the character funded the trip and secretly joined in an effort to prevent his imminent death, hoping the Engineers would help. Weyland proved to be a significant figure in the Alien franchise, one that audiences wanted to know even more about, but with the news that none of the actors from previous installments would be involved in the FX series, it looked like his next potential appearance would have to be in another movie.

Now, in speaking with, Pearce is discussing the possibility of returning to the Alien franchise by way of its upcoming television series. Noting he hasn’t been approached by anyone, Pearce expressed that Weyland’s fate at the end of Prometheus would likely lead to his return solely being as a hologram. See what Pearce explained below:

Well, I think if anything, it would be a hologram. I’ve not been asked about that, and I am looking more and more like the version of Peter Weyland who we saw in Prometheus, so there’s less prosthetic work to be done than the five hours we had to do back in 2011. It’s been ten years now.

Weyland’s Alien Franchise History Explained

Weyland has had a long history within the Alien franchise, despite the character not appearing in every installment, and with the series looking at Weyland-Yutani Corporation’s potential competitors in the quest for immortality, there is still a lot that audiences can learn. A billionaire funding research on space travel and artificial intelligence, he had motives of his own for exploring LV-223. He believed the Engineers to be a generous race, but upon awakening one, he ends up dying at its hand. Weyland also briefly appears in 2017’s Alien: Covenant, explaining to David (Michael Fassbender) that there is more to the creation of mankind and appearing perturbed at the idea of his A.I. outliving him.

With a dedicated fanbase behind it, Alien has a lot of room to expand its world, and it will be interesting to see how the FX series portrays it. The potential of having the Xenomorph infiltrate an Earth setting will certainly excite viewers, and should Pearce return as Peter Weyland, it could provide an intriguing tie-in to past events and storylines.
