Black Adam Image Reveals Peacemaker Character’s DCEU Return

Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam movie will feature one of the main Peacemaker characters, as revealed in a new BTS image of their latest DC Extended Universe appearance. After years of being stuck in development hell, the DCEU is weeks away from introducing Black Adam, with Johnson finally getting to bring the DC icon to the big screen. Initially, the plan was to have Black Adam appear in Shazam! until Johnson convinced Warner Bros. to give both characters their own movies in order to properly explore both of their origin stories.

Black Adam explores Teth-Adam’s tragic life as a Kahndaq slave whose life is forever changed when he is given godlike powers. While Johnson’s titular character is best known as Shazam’s archnemesis, the DCEU is exploring his status as an anti-hero while also featuring traditional superheroes in the form of the Justice Society of America. The Golden Age team will consist of Cyclone, Atom Smasher, Hawkman, and Doctor Fate, as they clash with Black Adam. Even though this film is introducing multiple new characters, Black Adam isn’t shying away from tying in the larger DCEU, with Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller set to return in the movie after being last seen in Peacemaker season 1.

However, Waller won’t be the only returning The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker character to pop up in Black Adam. A new Black Adam BTS featurette was recently released (via The DC Syndicate), and in one of the shots, Agent Emilia Harcourt, played by Jennifer Holland, is seen next to Pierce Brosnan’s Doctor Fate and Aldis Hodge’s Hawkman, confirming her presence in the DCEU film. In January 2022, rumors emerged about Harcourt supposedly making an appearance in Black Adam, but neither Holland nor Warner Bros. would confirm it at the time. Check out the first look at Peacemaker’s Harcourt with the Black Adam characters above:

Why Emilia Harcourt Appears In Black Adam

As exciting as it is to see Black Adam and Peacemaker stage a little crossover, it raises a big question of what Harcourt’s role is in the film. The end of Peacemaker season 1 never did any foreshadowing of Harcourt showing up in Black Adam, instead seeing her recover from the gunshots she took in the finale’s battle scene. Holland’s DCEU return may be tied to what Waller is up to in the film, as she contacts the Justice Society after Black Adam wakes up and wreaks havoc in modern times. Based on the Black Adam image, it wouldn’t be shocking if Harcourt is a liaison in person while Waller operates with the team virtually, in the same vein as Peacemaker season 1.

Whatever brings Harcourt into Black Adam, it’s fun to see the film already connecting with other DCEU properties, including Peacemaker, which is one of the few ongoing HBO Max shows tied to the cinematic universe. Johnson has made it clear that this is only the beginning of his franchise, with Black Adam spinoffs in consideration, as well as potential sequels. With less than a week until Black Adam opens in theaters, Harcourt’s appearance will soon be clarified, and perhaps her latest DCEU return will indicate where she is going in Peacemaker season 2.
